We are seeking a permanent flexible full-time Senior Adoption Officer to administer programs in accordance with the departments statutory obligations and provide high quality and professional services to children requiring an adoptive family, prospective adoptive parents, adoptive and birth families, individuals seeking post adoption information and permanency planning for children in the child protection system.

This position reports to the Senior Team Leader

This role is authorised under the Adoption Act 2009, Adoption Regulation 2020 and Child Protection Act 1999 and has a range of statutory delegations.

Role specific/technical skills

You recognise and articulate the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and have the capacity to consult and negotiate according to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols. You know about and understand the issues that impact on First Nations people in contemporary society.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Deliver high quality adoption and permanency services to ensure high quality client services for children, individuals and families in accordance with the requirements of relevant agreements and legislation, contemporary adoption and permanency planning policies, procedures and practices; and the department's Strategic Plan.
• Provide culturally appropriate, high quality adoption and permanency services for children requiring adoptive and permanent care families, individuals and families using a range of techniques including assessment, case management, counselling and mediation, consultation, referral, community education, advocacy and liaison.
• Provide specialist information and advice on casework and practice to assist decision making in matters relating to adoption and permanency planning including providing special purpose documents such as genograms, case work and case management plans and comprehensive file review reports.
• Provide specialist advice and assistance on complex matters to assist in the coordination of appropriate client services and decision making; and prepare written reports, briefs, and correspondence to clients in relation to the work of Adoption and Permanent Care Services within the department.
• Liaise with clients, members of the public, intercountry adoption authorities and agencies, national central authorities, other Government Departments, departmental staff and foster and kinship care agencies in relation to inquiries relevant to Adoption and Permanent Care Services.
• Provide high quality services, information and guidance in relation to securing permanent placements for children in the child protection system and assist Child Safety Service Centres to secure permanent child protection orders for children to their foster carers.
• Participate actively and productively as a team member to achieve the objectives of the Department, enhance delivery of adoption and permanency services in Queensland and promote a positive public image for the department through developing and maintaining proactive partnerships with clients, relevant agencies and support groups.
• Provide mentoring and guidance to staff on complex adoption and permanency matters.
• Actively contribute at a high level to a culture of client service, excellence and continuous improvement while ensuring confidentiality is respected and maintained as described in Division 2 of the Adoption Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, practices and procedures in relation to adoption and permanent care services arising from key program areas.
