The Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers exists to create resilient and connected Queensland communities. It does this through its work to empower the local government sector, grow economic development opportunities by boosting water affordability and availability and partnering with the volunteering sector to remove barriers, support growth, and uplift capability.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director-General and serving as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership across Corporate Services. Leading a diverse executive portfolio spanning media and communications, human resources and workplace health and safety, finance, digital capability, governance, performance and risk, legal services and cabinet and executive services.
You will:
- Lead the transformation of corporate services to deliver contemporary, customer focused and high-performing support functions.
- Partner with the Director-General and Executive Leadership Team to shape departmental strategy and organisational performance.
- Drive workforce, digital and organisational capability to ensure the Department is equipped for future challenges.
- Strengthen governance, risk management and accountability across a complex and evolving organisation.
- Provide trusted strategic advice to the Minister, Director-General and senior executives on matters of significant organisational importance.
- Build strong partnerships across government while positioning the Department as a contemporary and high-performing public sector agency.
This role operates at the centre of organisational leadership, requiring an executive who can balance strategic vision with operational excellence while leading significant reform across multiple corporate functions.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be an accomplished senior executive with experience leading complex corporate, governance or enterprise services functions within large organisations. You combine commercial acumen with strong public purpose, understanding that exceptional corporate services enable organisations to deliver meaningful outcomes for the communities they serve. You are recognised for building high-performing executive teams, leading organisational transformation and fostering cultures of accountability, collaboration and innovation.
Additionally, you will bring:
- Proven experience leading broad corporate or enterprise services portfolios at senior executive level.
- Demonstrated success delivering large-scale organisational reform and transformation.
- Exceptional strategic leadership and the ability to influence across executive, government and external stakeholder environments.
- Strong governance, financial and organisational management capability.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary executive teams through complexity, ambiguity and change.
- Outstanding judgement, communication and relationship-building skills, with the credibility to advise Ministers, Directors-General and senior government leaders.
