About us:

The Central Queensland Public Health Unit (CQPHU) is a multidisciplinary team committed to protecting and improving the health of communities across the region. Bringing together experts in public health, nursing, environmental health, epidemiology, data management and business services, the team works to prevent disease, reduce the impact of communicable and vaccine-preventable illnesses, and minimise environmental health risks. Through a proactive, population-focused approach, CQPHU plays a vital role in keeping Central Queensland communities healthy, safe and resilient.

About the role:

  • Develop environmental health knowledge and skills to deliver routine services and support public health responses under the guidance of Environmental Health Officers.
  • Conduct environmental health assessments, inspections and community visits, including providing on-the-job training and support to Indigenous Community Environmental Health Workers.
  • Assist with incident and outbreak responses as part of a multidisciplinary team to address public and environmental health issues.
  • Prepare reports, presentations and other communications on environmental health matters, while building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

About you:

  • Although there a no mandatory requirements for this role, applicants working toward a tertiary qualification in the field of public or environmental health (accredited by Environmental Health Australia), and experience in environmental health would be highly desired.
  • Ability to work independently to plan, prepare and deliver programs in line with Public Health priorities to set timeframes and goals.
  • Function as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team demonstrating ability to function effectively with a minimum of supervision.
  • Knowledge of the environmental risk factors associated with disease risks, as well as high-level strategies to address them.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $101,073 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $40.17 - $44.67 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
