What you'll do  

  • Apply independent specialist scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of tests results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Gladstone and Central QLD HHS.
  • Supervise diagnostic testing, development of scientific practices and related duties following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards within a medium sized multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, procedures, and protocols within the Gladstone Laboratory.
  • Apply specialist scientist knowledge, experience and skills and provide scientific leadership in pathology services to a medium-sized multidisciplinary team of scientific and Clinical Assistant staff.
  • Support the development of scientific knowledge and expertise in the laboratory through active learning and professional development of all laboratory staff.
  • High level of managerial responsibility of a multi-disciplinary team including accountability for performance appraisal, performance management, and people management of all Gladstone Laboratory staff.
  • Independently, manage and direct the performance and operation of pathology services across the Gladstone Pathology QLD laboratory with accountability for the budget, assets and human resources of the laboratory in line with the strategic direction of Pathology Queensland and CSQ.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply advanced level scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Hospital and Health Service.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
