About us: 

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Unit within the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) covers workplace policies, risk management, and employee support designed to protect staff health and maintain safe regional healthcare operations across Far North Queensland. The HSW Unit works collaboratively with leaders and employees across CHHHS to foster a culture where health, safety and wellbeing are integral to everyday practice, enabling our workforce to provide exceptional care to the communities of Far North Queensland.

Our focus areas are:

  • Risk Management: Identifying workplace hazards, maintaining risk registers, and applying safety controls..
  • Incident Reporting: Manage safety incidents, near-misses, and injuries applying contemporary safety strategies.
  • Staff Wellbeing: Managing psychosocial hazards and providing specialised advice and psychosocial risk assessments.
  • Injury management: providing early intervention and prevention of work related injuries.
  • Safety Culture and Education: Promoting a positive safety culture through consultation, training, workforce engagement, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility for health, safety and wellbeing outcomes.

About your role:

In this position you will…..

  • Lead, manage and integrate safety and risk management strategies within the work unit to ensure effective and efficient comprehensive Occupational Violence Protection (OVP) training service delivery through developing and co-ordinating quality improvement and research activities at the team and program level.
  • Work collaboratively with a broad range of senior staff including management and directors to identify and develop appropriate expert training knowledge and skills within a team environment.
  • Provide leadership, direction and management to a small team focussed on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) services throughout the HHS consistent with Area and Queensland Health priorities.
