Director, Engineering Systems
Shape the systems behind Queensland's future infrastructure.
Queensland is growing, and the infrastructure decisions made today will influence how communities connect, move and prosper for generations.
We're seeking an experienced and forward-thinking engineering leader to join the Department of Transport and Main Roads as Director, Engineering Systems. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the engineering governance, standards, systems and capability that underpin some of Queensland's most significant transport infrastructure assets and projects.
This role is ideal for someone who sees the bigger picture. Someone who can connect strategy with delivery, balance risk with innovation and understand how decisions made in one part of a system can influence outcomes across an entire network.
Working closely with the Deputy Chief Engineer and senior leaders, you'll play a pivotal role in strengthening engineering excellence across Structures, influencing technical direction, governance, performance and capability at a statewide level.
What you'll bring
You are more than a highly capable engineer.
You are a leader who can navigate complexity, build alignment across diverse stakeholders and create the conditions for others to succeed. You combine strong engineering judgement with curiosity, systems thinking and a passion for continuous improvement.
You will have demonstrated success:
Leading engineering governance, assurance or standards functions within complex environments.
Influencing strategic outcomes across organisational boundaries.
Developing leaders and technical professionals to strengthen capability and decision-making.
Using data, systems and emerging technologies to improve performance and inform better decisions.
Translating complex technical issues into practical advice for executive audiences.
Why this role?
This is an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy.
The work of this team helps ensure Queensland's bridges, tunnels and other critical transport structures remain safe, resilient and fit for the future. You'll help shape the standards, systems and governance frameworks that guide investment and engineering decisions across the asset lifecycle.
You'll also have the chance to drive innovation, challenge established thinking and build organisational capability by coaching emerging leaders and technical experts.
About you
We're looking for a respected engineering professional with RPEQ registration who has successfully influenced peers, led through others and delivered results in complex environments. This role will particularly suit candidates who enjoy building capability, shaping organisational direction and creating sustainable improvements that endure beyond any single project.
If you're motivated by the opportunity to influence engineering excellence at scale and contribute to infrastructure outcomes that will benefit Queenslanders for generations, we'd love to hear from you.
Applications to remain current for 12 months.
