About the role:

As a Supervising Scientist, you will supervise, coordinate and provide leadership to the Chemical Pathology service at TPCH Laboratory to ensure that all laboratory practices comply with PQ requirements in providing an effective, efficient, client focused Chemical Pathology service across the Caboolture, Prince Charles, and Redcliffe Hospitals of the Metro North (MN) HHS.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Apply independent specialist scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of tests results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of TPCH and MNHHS.
  • Provide scientific leadership to supervise Chemical Pathology diagnostic testing, development of scientific practices and related duties following PQ established accredited protocols and standards within a medium sized multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, procedures and protocols and across TPCH Group Laboratories.
  • Provide expert advice to senior management, peers and other relevant stakeholders on professional, scientific, resources and operational issues relating to Chemical Pathology service provision and provide support and advice on complex scientific and technical issues.
  • Support the development of Chemical Pathology scientific knowledge and expertise in the laboratory through active learning and professional development of all laboratory staff.
  • Independently, manage and direct the performance and operation of Chemical Pathology services across TPCH campus with accountability for the budget, assets and human resources of the department in line with the strategic direction of PQ.
  • Ensure all staff work cooperatively within Chemical Pathology and collaborate across disciplines/work units by applying effective communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills where necessary to achieve desired outcomes with clients both internal and external to the laboratory.

Role fit:

 

You will bring advanced expertise in Chemical Pathology, applying high-level scientific judgement to analyse patient specimens, verify and validate results, and provide specialist advice to clinical teams to support quality patient care. You will contribute to the delivery of complex scientific services while maintaining professional standards, established procedures and service excellence. With strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, you will provide advice to laboratory staff and clients on service delivery and continuous improvement initiatives, while building effective professional relationships across multidisciplinary teams. You will also demonstrate proven leadership capability in managing human, financial and physical resources within a multidisciplinary laboratory environment, ensuring services align with the strategic objectives of Pathology Queensland.
