Principal Statistician/Analyst

The position is in the Crime Research (CR) team of the Crime Statistics and Research (CSR) unit within the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office (QGSO).
It is responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of crime and justice research and managing a team of researchers with diverse skills and backgrounds. It involves working with multiple stakeholders, applying research expertise, understanding Queensland’s criminal justice system and the types of administrative data collected, producing publication level research outputs and fostering healthy and inclusive workplaces.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING IN THE ROLE
* Lead project teams as required and manage activities to ensure outputs satisfy QGSO standards for integrity, accuracy and timeliness based on quality principles and methodologies.
* Oversee the organisation of crime research team activities, including allocation of tasks.
* Develop and maintain positive working relationships between QGSO, academia, other levels of government, non-government organisations and other stakeholders.
* Provide high level advice, information and support to clients and senior officers on complex and diverse issues.
* Prepare complex crime research reports, submissions, briefing notes, commentary, presentations, documents, speeches and correspondence for the public and/or senior officers.
* Prepare detailed project proposals and agreements for the provision of crime research services.
* Participate in strategic and business planning, coordination of workflows, utilisation of human, financial and other resources, performance management and quality assurance.
* Represent QGSO on working groups and committees contributing advice and expert knowledge.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE ROLE
• excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• experience in the preparation of publication level research reports.
• experience processing and analysing complex data - a high level of competency in Excel and use of the statistical software application “R” would be highly desirable.
• excellent organisational skills and ability to navigate, lead and manage competing work priorities in complex and, at times, fast paced environments.
• the ability to apply effective judgement, communication and understanding of perspectives in developing solutions and working with others.
QUALIFICATIONS TECHNICAL/EDUCATIONAL
* There are no mandatory qualifications needed for this role; however, relevant qualifications and knowledge of Queensland's criminal justice system are highly regarded.
