Trinity Bay State High School is seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) to lead inclusive education practices and support positive outcomes for students with disability. Reporting to the Principal, you will lead the Special Education Program, working closely with teachers, school leaders, families and external agencies to ensure students receive high-quality teaching, appropriate adjustments and targeted support. About us:

Established in 1960, Trinity Bay State High School has developed a tradition of excellence in teaching and learning. The school enjoys a positive reputation within the community of Cairns and provides an extensive curriculum for all students. The school is an Independent Public School that boasts excellent student results, very high public confidence, a strong International Program and direct links to James Cook University and Central Queensland University. Approximately 35% of students identify themselves as being Indigenous (the vast majority of these being Torres Strait Islander). A significant proportion of these students board away from home at hostels or with family in order to attend a 'mainstream' school in Cairns. The school is a centre for accommodating the needs of students with special needs such as visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech or language impairments and general disabilities. 

Your opportunity:

  • Promote an inclusive culture and practices within the school community to ensure equity and excellence for students with disability.
  • Develop and support a high quality of teaching and adjustments for students with disability in accordance to related legislation and policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Special Education Programs and provide expert advice and support to teachers and staff.
  • Develop reasonable adjustments and targeted teaching strategies for students with disability.
  • Coordinate case management and intensive support for students requiring significant adjustments.
  • Connect staff with specialist services, professional development and external supports.
  • Support school planning and decision-making around inclusive education.
  • Manage student data and systems, including NCCD requirements.
  • Build partnerships with families, government agencies and community organisations.
  • Manage resources including staff, finances, facilities and curriculum.
