Supporting older people through some of their most vulnerable moments requires more than clinical expertise - it requires patience, compassion, sound judgement and the ability to build genuine trust.

This temporary backfill role provides the opportunity to foster specialist older persons mental health care in the Rockhampton community, supporting people with complex needs through assessment, treatment, care coordination and follow-up.

If you’re an experienced Occupational Therapist, Psychologist or Social Worker who values person-centred care, this role is worth exploring.

About us:

Central Queensland Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs is a specialist, region-wide service supporting more than 250,000 people across Central Queensland and parts of Central West Queensland. With Rockhampton as its principal hub, the service provides much more than frontline mental health and alcohol and other drug care - it is the centre for clinical oversight, professional supervision, mental health support, program implementation and acute inpatient services across the region.

Rockhampton Hospital is home to the Mental Health Inpatient Unit, Older Persons Inpatient Unit and Acute Care Team, making it a key part of the wider network supporting people experiencing complex and acute mental health needs.

About the role:

  • Provide specialist older persons mental health care through evidence-based assessment, treatment, intervention and follow-up within a community setting.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, including diagnosis, case management, referrals, liaison, discharge planning and evaluation.
  • Use clinical judgement and problem-solving skills to respond to complex mental health needs and achieve meaningful outcomes for consumers.
  • Support and develop others by providing clinical education, supervision and guidance to students and less experienced practitioners.

About you:

  • A capable, recovery-focused clinician with sound older persons mental health knowledge, strong clinical skills, and the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload effectively.
  • A collaborative communicator and lifelong learner who builds strong partnerships across multidisciplinary, government and community services, while contributing to education, professional development and evidence-based practice.
  • Hold qualifications and registration with the appropriate registration authority to practice in any of the following:
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Psychology
  • Social Work

What we offer:

Total monthly remuneration value of up to $11,047 p.m. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $43.97 - $58.59 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
