About the role:
As a Supervising Scientist, you will manage the Redland Laboratory to ensure the provision of an integrated, comprehensive, cost effective and quality diagnostic service within the Redland and Wynnum Hospitals campus using the policies, guidelines and strategies of Pathology Queensland.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Apply independent specialist scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of tests results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate to ensure that the pathology service meets the requirements of the Redland Hospital.
- Supervise diagnostic testing, development of scientific practices and related duties following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards within a medium sized multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards, procedures and protocols within Redland Laboratory.
- Apply specialist scientist knowledge, experience and skills and provide scientific leadership in pathology services to a medium-sized multidisciplinary team of scientific and operational staff.
- Provide expert advice to peers and relevant stakeholders on professional, scientific, resources and operational issues relating to service provision and provide after- hours support and advice on complex scientific and technical issues.
- Support the development of scientific knowledge and expertise in the laboratory through active learning and professional development of all laboratory staff.
- Independently, manage and direct the performance and operation of pathology services across the Redland Hospital campus with accountability for the budget, assets and human resources of the laboratory in line with the strategic direction of Pathology Queensland and Health Support Queensland. In conjunction with the Princess Alexandra Hospital Group Laboratory Manager prepare submissions for staff and equipment to ensure that the Redland Laboratory service is appropriately resourced.

You will bring advanced scientific expertise in the analysis of patient specimens, applying sound professional judgement to verify and validate results and provide specialist advice that supports high-quality patient care. With strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, you will build effective relationships across laboratory and clinical teams while contributing to service delivery improvements. You will ensure the provision of complex scientific services in line with professional standards and established procedures, and demonstrate proven leadership in managing laboratory operations, resources and staff within a multidisciplinary environment aligned to the strategic objectives of Pathology Queensland.
