About the opportunity
Our instrument and circulatory nurses working within our emergency theatres work a continuous shift work roster (includes night shift) and across all elective, emergency and trauma operating theatres to maintain competency in all specialties.
The successful candidate must be an experienced instrument and circulatory nurse who currently works in an operating theatre and can demonstrate current experience with emergency and trauma procedures. A combination of 10, 9, 8 and 6 hour shifts are rostered to ensure nursing coverage to all theatre lists. On Call is mandatory for all staff deemed competent to be rostered on the on call roster each month.
The Operating Theatre has 15 operating theatres inclusive of a new Hybrid Operating room. The service offers Level 5 - 6 CSCF v3.1 within the following disciplines.
- Cardiac, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Thoracic, Ear, Nose and Throat, Plastic Reconstruction Surgery, Maxillary Facial, Oral Surgery and Dental, Urology, Orthopaedics, Trauma, Hepatobiliary, Gastrointestinal and Breast Endocrine, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Transplant donor site only (Kidney Transplants to commence in 2025), Hybrid Theatre with various imaging modalities
The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:
- Comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.
- Demonstrated and current experience working in an operating theatres in the roles of instrument and circulating roles as per ACORN standards.
- Demonstrated experience working within an emergency/trauma operating theatre or extensive experience working across a number of specialties with an operating theatre.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks.
- High standard of written and oral communication skills within the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.
- Use or learn to use information systems appropriate to the position.
- Provide clinical education and support and demonstrate own ongoing professional development.
- Competency as outlined in the NMBA - Registered nurse standards for practice
Role requirements
- Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- Shift Workers/On Call: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
- This is a VPD risk role.
