We are seeking an innovative, collaborative and highly motivated Head of Department - Teaching and Learning to lead the development and delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across the school. The successful applicant will provide strategic and instructional leadership, foster a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement, and work collaboratively with teachers, students, families and the wider community to improve student outcomes.

This is a temporary full-time position commencing 21 January 2027 until 10 December 2027, unless otherwise determined. About Us:

Established in 1963, Proserpine State High School services a diverse range of communities and offers excellent holistic educational opportunities for young adolescents of the Whitsunday Region of Queensland. The majority of students are drawn from the communities of Airlie Beach/Cannonvale, Whitsunday Islands, Proserpine and its surrounding farming/grazing areas. Given that Proserpine State High School students come from such a large geographical area, the majority of students utilise a well-developed school bus and boat network.

About the Role:

This Teaching and Learning position has a specific focus on Literacy and Numeracy. The successful applicant will lead and support school-wide strategies to improve student outcomes in these key priority areas.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Educational Leadership: Lead the department in developing and implementing a shared educational vision focused on achieving high-quality learning outcomes for all students.
• Inclusive and High-Performance Culture: Promote socially just and inclusive practices while setting high expectations for student and staff performance, wellbeing and engagement.
• Strategic Partnerships and Future Focus: Build strong partnerships with students, parents, government agencies and community groups, while taking a strategic, innovative and future-focused approach to departmental improvement.
• Professional and Policy Leadership: Model lifelong learning and professional growth, while ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and procedures relating to students and staff.
• Effective Resource Management: Lead and manage human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources effectively to achieve departmental priorities, improve outcomes and support continuous improvement.
