About the role

The Clinical Nurse – Heart Lung Quality and Safety provides expert clinical nursing knowledge and leadership within the Heart Lung Program at The Prince Charles Hospital. Working as part of a specialised tertiary and quaternary service, the role supports high standards of patient care through quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance activities and the application of contemporary evidence-based nursing practice.

The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing improvement of patient safety and service quality across the Heart Lung Program through activities including policy development, clinical audit, incident review, patient surveillance, staff education and compliance with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. The role also provides support and direction to nursing staff and contributes to a culture of continuous improvement and clinical excellence.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Apply advanced clinical nursing expertise to support quality and safety initiatives across the Heart Lung Program.
  • Contribute to policy development, clinical audit activities, patient surveillance processes and clinical incident reviews to enhance patient care outcomes.
  • Provide education, support and guidance to nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members while fostering an evidence-based learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to promote patient safety, quality improvement and compliance with clinical standards and governance requirements.
  • Demonstrate leadership in continuous quality improvement activities, research projects and service development initiatives that support excellence in cardiology and thoracic medicine services.
