 About us:

A new purpose-built special school is being established in Central Logan, co-located next to Berrinba East State School. The new school will help meet growing enrolment demand across the area while providing a supportive and inclusive environment for students with diverse learning needs. Designed to help students learn, grow and thrive, the school will feature modern learning environments and specialist spaces for learning, therapy, wellbeing and play, creating a welcoming setting that supports the educational, developmental and wellbeing needs of every student.

About the Role:

Working alongside the Principal and Deputy Principal, you will play a pivotal role in developing whole-school curriculum systems, strengthening teacher capability and ensuring every student has access to engaging, evidence-informed learning that supports communication, independence and lifelong success.

As Head of Department, Curriculum, you will provide instructional leadership across the school, leading curriculum implementation, coaching teachers and driving continuous improvement through evidence-informed practice.

A key focus of the role will be establishing high-quality curriculum and pedagogical practices that meet the diverse learning needs of students in a specialist setting. You will work closely with teachers to develop their capability in planning, assessment and differentiation while fostering a culture of collaboration, reflection and professional growth.

This role offers the opportunity to influence the educational direction of a new school and establish systems that will support excellence for years to come.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the implementation of the Australian Curriculum and develop coherent whole-school curriculum planning processes.
• Build teacher capability through coaching, mentoring, professional learning and collaborative planning.
• Lead the school's reading improvement agenda through evidence-informed literacy practices, including the Science of Reading and explicit instruction.
• Support the implementation of Age-Appropriate Pedagogies that promote engagement, communication and meaningful learning.
• Strengthen assessment and moderation practices to ensure consistent and reliable teacher judgement.
• Use student achievement and engagement data to inform curriculum decisions and school improvement priorities.
• Develop whole-school systems that support high-quality teaching, curriculum consistency and continuous improvement.
• Work collaboratively with school leaders, teachers, allied health professionals and support staff to maximise student outcomes.
• Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion and high expectations for every learner.
