Cairns Hospital provides a range of specialist outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services from its CBD site on the Cairns Esplanade and has over 500 inpatient beds.
Surgical South Ward is an acute 32 bed ward providing surgical care to elective and emergency surgical inpatients as a 24 hour, seven days a week service.
Surgical North Ward provides care to primarily Vascular, ENT, gynaecology, general surgical and ophthalmology patients, and extends to other surgical subspecialties such as urology, plastics, colorectal, orthopaedic.
Orthopaedic Ward: main elective surgeries include TKR, THR and spinal surgery. Trauma is a large component of our activity and include #NOFs, Spinal and pelvic trauma and long bone fractures. We utilise an MDT approach to providing care inclusive of AH team, Ortho geriatric model and Acute Pain Services.
Surgical Outpatients Department delivers multidisciplinary care across a range of specialities, including General Surgery, Vascular, Ophthalmology, Plastics, ENT, Orthopaedics, Fracture Clinic, Neurosurgery, Urology, and Breast Surgery. We run dedicated clinics for each specialty, supported by high-volume dressing clinics and several nurse-led models of care.
About your role:
Your main tasks may include (but are not limited to):
- Direct patient cares – ADLs.
- Complex wound care.
- Patient education.
- Surgical drains/stomas/tracheostomy management.
- Liaise with allied health professionals and other departments to facilitate coordinated care.
