CITEC is seeking an enthusiastic IT Support Consultant to join its Unix Support Group within the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business. This is an exciting opportunity to work with experienced technology professionals in a supportive team where collaboration, mentoring and continuous learning are part of everyday work.

In this role, you'll do more than provide system administration support - you'll help keep important government services running smoothly, securely and efficiently. You'll work across enterprise Unix and Linux environments, contribute to customer solutions, and strengthen system performance, compliance and resilience. What you'll be doing:
• Deliver advanced Unix and Linux system administration and technical advice to Queensland Government customers.
• Support secure and reliable services across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux.
• Drive operating system patching, vulnerability management, compliance and risk mitigation activities.
• Contribute to customer onboarding, solution design and the exploration of emerging technologies.
• Assist with technical responses to client work requests and proposals.
• Participate in workshops, demonstrations, proofs of concept, evaluations and benchmarks.
• Troubleshoot issues in complex enterprise environments to maintain system stability and performance.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build your expertise through certification and ongoing professional development.

Essential requirements:
You will have knowledge and experience administering:
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and/or
• Other Unix/Linux operating systems such as Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux.

Highly desirable experience in one or more of the following will be highly regarded:
• Perl, Python or Bash.
• Puppet, Ansible or Terraform.
• Git or Mercurial.
• Virtualisation platforms including VMWare and Linux KVMSplunk.
• Container technologies e.g. Podman, Docker, Kubernetes.
