Brisbane State High School is currently seeking expressions of interest for a Sport Coach (Head Coach First VIII) for our dynamic Rowing Program to commence as soon as possible for a period of 6 months.

As a key member of the school support staff team, the position will support the delivery of an effective Rowing Program at Brisbane State High School. This role focuses on providing support to the Director of Rowing for both boys and girls activities.

The position will ensure high-quality coaching is provided to students in the Rowing Program.

Your opportunity:

The Sport Coach reports to the HR Business Manager for HR and administration purposes. The position will work collaboratively and professionally with the Director or Rowing (MIC) assigned to oversee the school's program. The position may also be required to report to other senior school staff or the principal. 

N.B. This position operates outside of standard business hours. Start times during the Rowing Season will be early in the morning and Regattas are generally held on Saturdays. Time in lieu will be negotiated in line with operational requirements.

Responsibilities include:

• Under the direction of the Director of Rowing (MIC) assist in managing the activities of the school's Rowing program, including the development and implementation of skills for basic to advanced levels of Rowing.
• In collaboration with the MIC, prepare Rowers for competition through a comprehensive program that develops fundamental techniques, skill and understanding of the sport.

Suitability Assessment Criteria:

• Knowledge and understanding of rowing programs at secondary school level in a community environment.
• Experience in the administration of matters pertaining to rowing program operations. 
• Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and proactive.
• Senior First Aid Certificate (or equivalent) or a commitment to obtain such a qualification within a time frame agreed by the school. 
• Hold a current Working with Children Blue Card.
• Power boat licence or a commitment to obtain such a qualification within a time frame agreed by the school.
• Be available to attend the rowing shed and regattas outside of school hours and weekends 
• Demonstrated coaching experience in rowing programs. 
• Minimum level 2 Rowing Australia accreditation. 
• Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills.
• Ability to think logically and solve problems.
• Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills.
