Guidance Officer - New special school in Logan Reserve

In early 2027, a new special school will be opening providing an inclusive, future-focused learning environment for students from Prep to Year 12. The school will welcome its first cohort of Prep to Year 6 students in 2027, with enrolments expanding over time. Co-located with a new state high school, we are establishing a school community where every student will be known, valued and supported to belong, engage, succeed and thrive.

This is a unique opportunity to join our foundation team and help establish the culture, systems and practices that will shape the school for years to come. Staff will work collaboratively to create a safe, welcoming and high-performing environment for future students, families and colleagues.

About us:

Students enrolling at the school will present with a diverse range of strengths, abilities and support needs. We are committed to delivering evidence-informed educational programs that promote engagement, wellbeing, communication, independence and successful lifelong outcomes. Working in partnership with families and community agencies will be central to our approach, ensuring every student receives personalised support to achieve meaningful success.

Your opportunity:

  • Provide professional expertise, leadership and support to school communities and networks in the development and implementation of plans, programs, and procedures to assist students in achieving positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes
  • Collaboratively negotiate, develop and implement programs for students that have a focus on preventative and early intervention strategies; are responsive to identified personal, social, emotional and educational needs; and aim to foster resilience and personal skills development.
  • As part of our co-located campus, staff will benefit from shared expertise, strong professional partnerships and opportunities to contribute to an innovative educational community.
  • We are seeking professionals who are passionate about inclusive education, value authentic partnerships and are committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide counselling, assessment and individual student support across educational, behavioural, wellbeing and career needs.
  • Work collaboratively with students, families, teachers and external support agencies.
  • Provide case management, referrals and ongoing support.
  • Conduct student observations and psychoeducational assessments to identify learning, developmental and wellbeing needs.
  • Develop and support individualised plans, behaviour support and educational adjustments.
  • Assist with career development, SET planning and future pathways.
  • Support student protection, critical incidents and emergency responses.
  • Maintain confidential records in accordance with legislation and policy.
  • Provide professional guidance, training and development to staff and families.
  • Support students requiring intensive behaviour intervention and assistance with transitions.
