The Opportunity
Make a real difference in protecting Queensland's environment, agriculture, and communities from biosecurity threats. As a Compliance Officer, you'll play a critical frontline role supporting the Queensland Government's efforts to manage and eradicate fire ants while promoting compliance with the Biosecurity Act 2014.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and working with people. No two days are the same. You'll spend time in the field conducting inspections and assessments, engaging directly with landholders and industry stakeholders, investigating potential biosecurity risks, collecting evidence, and providing practical advice to support compliance outcomes. You'll have the opportunity to build trusted relationships with stakeholders, influence positive behavioural change, and contribute to one of Queensland's most significant environmental protection programs.
Working within a supportive and collaborative team, you'll develop specialist knowledge and experience in compliance, investigation, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement. Whether you're conducting onsite inspections, assessing potential fire ant infestations, gathering information to support regulatory decisions, or helping landholders understand their obligations, your work will have a direct and lasting impact on Queensland's biosecurity future.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing field-based work with office-based activities, can communicate confidently with a variety of stakeholders, and is motivated by protecting the environment and supporting positive outcomes for the community.
In this role, you will:
Conduct compliance assessments and investigations to identify and address biosecurity risks, support regulatory outcomes, and contribute to the eradication of fire ants across Queensland.
Engage and educate stakeholders by providing advice and guidance on biosecurity requirements, building trusted relationships and encouraging voluntary compliance.
Collect, analyse and document evidence through onsite inspections, risk assessments and accurate record keeping to support informed compliance and enforcement decisions.

You'll Be Highly Regarded If You Have
- Knowledge of authorised officer powers and responsibilities under relevant legislation, including appointment as a Queensland Biosecurity Authorised Inspector.
- Experience communicating compliance requirements and achieving voluntary compliance outcomes.
- Experience undertaking inspections, investigations, or regulatory compliance activities.
- Strong evidence-gathering, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Knowledge of biosecurity, environmental, agricultural, or natural resource management sectors.
