Your key responsibilities:

  • Custodian of the Department's general ledger and responsible for the development and maintenance of key internal controls to contain risks and ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
  • Oversee the production of audit cleared annual financial statements, schedules, account movement analysis, analytical reviews and the satisfactory compliance with auditing standards and regulations (including proforma and interim audited financial statements).
  • Oversee the production of monthly statutory reporting with an associated analytical review within defined timeframes for the Department executives.
  • Oversee the production of quarterly statutory reporting with an associated analytical review withing defined timeframes for the Department executives and Audit & Risk Committee.

Role fit

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Advanced understanding of and experience in the application, review and assessment of Australian Accounting Standards, legislation, contemporary financial management practices and policies, with experience in providing advice to executives and other stakeholders and in the development of policies, procedures and reporting mechanisms affecting more than one entity.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and success in the leadership and management of continuous improvement programs and initiatives in the areas of financial management, with a demonstrated ability to lead, develop and advance successful teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of contemporary financial management information technology, together with experience in the formulation of strategic direction and actions that are aligned to better practice and meet the needs of the Department and all other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated high level communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills, with proven experience in articulating and persuading internal and external stakeholders to agree to and accept fundamental accounting judgements alongside an ability to lead and establish a group consensus when faced with sector unique accounting challenges.
