About us:
Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is located 10 kilometres from the centre of Mackay in the rapidly growing Northern Beaches area.
Opened in January 2013, the school offers modern facilities and contemporary technology embedded across the curriculum.
The school has a strong House culture, with Positive Behaviour for Learning embedded in its expectations and ways of working.
Your opportunity:
Leading high-quality teaching, assessment and moderation, together with the consistent use of data to inform improvement, will be central to the role.
The position will also support the Department of Education's 10-year reading commitment by embedding a consistent, evidence-informed approach to the teaching of reading in conjunction with the school's Reading Coach.
Strong relational leadership and active contribution to whole-school strategic priorities will be essential to success in this position.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the English faculty to develop, articulate and enact a shared educational vision focused on high-quality teaching and improved learning outcomes for all students.
- Lead the development, implementation and quality assurance of curriculum, assessment and moderation practices across Years 7-12.
- Use student achievement, engagement and other relevant data to identify priorities, monitor progress and guide continuous improvement.
- Build teacher capability through collaborative planning, coaching, feedback, professional learning and the sharing of effective classroom practice.
- Establish a positive, inclusive and student-focused faculty culture characterised by high expectations for student achievement and staff performance.
- Build productive professional relationships with students, staff, families, other government agencies and community partners.
- Contribute as a future-focused member of the school leadership team, including leading and supporting whole-school strategic initiatives.
- Manage the faculty's human, financial, curriculum and physical resources effectively and in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and departmental expectations.
