As our newest Switchboard Administrator, you’ll work just 3 shifts per fortnight on a 24-hour roster, including weekends and public holidays.

Be the friendly voice on the other end of the phone, connecting patients, visitors and staff with the right people — quickly and professionally. When things get serious, you’ll be the calm in the chaos, recognising emergencies, following procedures and knowing what to do when every second counts.

Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed major referral hospital for Central Queensland, providing state-of-the-art specialist and integrated cancer care.

We work closely with hospitals across Gladstone, Emerald, Yeppoon, Biloela and rural communities to deliver specialist care across the region.

With a strong focus on teaching, training and growing our future workforce, we support medical, nursing and specialist trainees across a wide range of services.

About the role:

  • Be the voice of the hospital. Answer calls professionally, connect people to the right place and keep things moving smoothly.
  • Keep everyone connected. Manage pagers, communication systems and staff updates so the right people get the right message at the right time.
  • Stay calm when it counts. Quickly recognise emergencies, activate the correct response and follow hospital protocols like a pro.
  • Keep things running behind the scenes. Coordinate after-hours travel and accommodation, update records, support admin tasks and use initiative to keep the shift on track.

About you:

  • Use your judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills, especially when things get busy or unexpected.
  • Communicate confidently with everyone from patients and visitors to staff and departments, building great working relationships along the way.
  • Comfortable with computers, Microsoft Word and Excel, and able to keep information accurate and up to date.
  • Share information, lend a hand and help create a supportive, collaborative team environment.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $31,808 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $41.17 - $45.79 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
