We are seeking an experienced and motivated Guidance Officer to join the team at Helensvale State High School.

As a Guidance Officer, you will provide professional expertise, leadership and support to our school community and networks in the development and implementation of plans, programs and procedures that support students to achieve positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes.

About us:

Founded in 1990, Helensvale State High School is a coeducational state school supporting approximately 2,000 students from Years 7-12. The school offers a diverse curriculum and a range of excellence programs across areas including sport, the arts, entrepreneurship, Japanese and academic studies. Student wellbeing is a key priority, with the SWeLL Centre providing learning and wellbeing support to students. The school also has a strong international program, celebrating cultural diversity and inclusion. Located on the northern Gold Coast, the school has extensive facilities including sporting fields, performing arts and music spaces, laboratories, technology workshops, dance studios and dedicated student wellbeing facilities.

Your opportunity:

As the Guidance Officer, you will work collaboratively with students, families, staff and external networks to develop and implement programs that:

• focus on preventative and early intervention strategies;
• respond to identified personal, social, emotional and educational needs;
• promote student wellbeing, resilience and positive mental health; and
• foster the development of personal, social and emotional skills.

This position is being offered in a Temporary Full-Time capacity, to commence Thursday 21 January 2027 to Friday 10 December 2027, unless otherwise determined.

Responsibilities:

• Provide counselling, assessment and support to students, families and staff.
• Assess learning, behavioural, emotional and developmental needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams, families and external agencies to coordinate support and referrals.
• Support career planning, education pathways and student transitions.
• Develop and implement individualised support, behaviour and education plans.
• Provide specialised support for student protection, critical incidents and complex behaviour needs.
• Maintain confidential records in line with legislation and policy.
• Provide advice, professional development and support to school staff and parents.
