Job details

Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats.

Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.

Biosecurity Queensland works to protect Queensland's economy, environment, agricultural industries and communities from a range of biosecurity threats. Our teams lead and deliver programs that prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from animal and plant pests and diseases, invasive species incursions and animal welfare and management issues. Working in partnership with industry, government, local communities and other stakeholders, we reduce biosecurity risks, support market access and trade, safeguard natural and agricultural assets, and contribute to strong biosecurity outcomes across the state.

As a Biosecurity Officer, you will:
• Conduct surveillance, inspections, and audits to detect and manage biosecurity risks.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to provide technical advice, promote compliance and facilitate biosecurity outcomes in far north Queensland.
• Participate in biosecurity operations and incidents (involving animals, plants and invasive species) as required.

There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess a:
• It is a mandatory requirement for a technical officer to possess an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a relevant field or equivalent. A candidate with relevant experience and not holding the mandatory Diploma Qualification may be considered for appointment at a lower level.
• A current “C” class drivers' licence.

This role requires the physical ability to carry out manual tasks and strenuous activities, handle livestock and operate a 4WD. Previous experience with biosecurity activities, fieldwork, compliance and investigations is highly regarded. If you do not have field experience, you will bring a good attitude and willingness to learn these aspects of the role.

You will have a keen eye for detail, great time management and effective problem-solving skills. More than anything, you will have a positive attitude and make a great contribution to our close-knit and connected team.
