The Digital Capital Program (DCP) is seeking a Principal Project Officer to support the delivery of the digital scope associated with the Cairns Hospital Expansion Project (CHEP), Hospital Rescue Plan initiatives and future Cairns Hospital Master Plan projects. The Principal Project Officer role provides hands on project management support and assists with the day-to-day management and coordination of projects. The role will lead key project functions including initiative reporting, risk and issue management, scheduling, work package management and governance in line with program and business requirements. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in project financial management and the development of key project documentation and artefacts including project plans and scope of works within an ICT and Health environment.

The role:  

Do you want to be part of one of the largest health infrastructure and digital transformation programs in Queensland?

The Principal Project Officer plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of the digital scope associated with the Cairns Hospital Expansion Project (CHEP) and future Cairns Hospital Master Plan initiatives.

Working within the Digital Capital Program, you will provide specialist project management support, advice and leadership across a range of project activities and delivery streams. You will lead key project management and support functions including:

  • Reporting and project controls
  • Project scheduling and planning
  • Financial management and forecasting
  • Governance and assurance activities
  • Development of project artefacts, reports and documentation
  • Management and coordination of project work packages
  • Risk, issue and dependency management
  • Supervision and support of AO5 Project Support staff

You will work closely with project teams, Digital Leads, Health Infrastructure Queensland and key stakeholders to support the delivery of approved digital infrastructure outcomes within agreed scope, schedule and budget.

Are you right for this role?

Reporting to the Digital Lead,  the Principal Project Officer will provide specialist project management expertise to support the planning, governance and delivery of complex digital infrastructure projects within the Cairns program.

You will have demonstrated experience in large-scale, complex project environments, with strong capabilities in project reporting, governance, scheduling, financial management and delivery coordination.

You will possess:

  • Proven experience leading project management support functions for complex programs or projects.
  • Strong skills in governance, reporting, scheduling, planning and financial management.
  • Experience developing project artefacts, executive reporting and governance documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple work packages and competing priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Experience leading, mentoring and supervising project support resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide advice and guidance to senior stakeholders.

Experience within ICT, digital health, infrastructure or major capital delivery programs will be highly regarded.

While this role is based in Fortitude Valley, there is a requirement to undertake travel to support project deliverables.

About the Digital Capital Program - eHealth Queensland:

eHealth Queensland is one of the largest Information Communication Technology operations in the state. It is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of information systems and technologies so that Queensland Health employees and health providers have access to information that supports the delivery of health care.

Queensland Health is currently undertaking one of the largest health infrastructure programs ever seen in Australia. The largest of these, the Hospital Rescue Plan (HRP) is a visionary program designed to bring service and capabilities to more Queenslanders than ever before. The Hospital Rescue Plan will deliver 3 new hospitals, a new Queensland Cancer Centre, and the expansion of 11 existing hospitals resulting in 2,600 additional beds across Queensland.   

The Digital Capital Program has partnered with Health Infrastructure Queensland (HIQ) to deliver the digital scope associated with the Hospital Rescue Plan and other major health capital infrastructure projects. The program is responsible for ensuring digital infrastructure, technology platforms and supporting services are delivered in alignment with clinical, operational and infrastructure delivery schedules. Centralised procurement and asset management capabilities play a critical role in achieving efficient, consistent and value-for-money delivery outcomes across the portfolio.
