We are seeking dependable, conscientious and proactive Cleaners to join our school team and help maintain a clean, hygienic, safe and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

Working under the direction of the Principal or nominated delegate, you will undertake a variety of cleaning and site-support duties in accordance with the school’s cleaning program and required standards.

We are looking to fill temporary part-time/relief vacancies, as they arise for Term 4 2026.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.

Mount Isa Special School is set amongst the beautiful rugged red rolling hills with the industrial backdrop of a major Queensland mine operation.  We are the most remote and rural special school in Queensland.  Our school provides highly individualised programs based on the Australian Curriculum, for all students who are diagnosed with an intellectual disability and or multiple disabilities including physical, visual and hearing impairments and autistic spectrum disorders. Mount Isa Special School is committed to ensuring all of our students have the opportunity to learn and achieve the highest outcomes they can in a personalised learning program drawn from all areas of the school curriculum. 

Your opportunity:

• Contribute to the efficient and effective operation and environment of the site by providing a high level of cleaning support.
• Ensure that the duties prescribed for the position are completed to an acceptable standard as determined by their supervisor, in accordance with the approved school cleaning program.
• This position forms part of a talent pool for upcoming part time and/or relief opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and presentation across classrooms, offices and shared facilities.
• Clean and sanitise toilets, sick bays and high-traffic areas.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop and hose internal and external surfaces.
• Clean windows, fixtures, furniture, equipment and other surfaces.
• Undertake floor maintenance, including buffing, stripping and polishing.
• Manage rubbish, litter and general waste, including drains and gutters.
• Address cobwebs, mildew and graffiti as required.
• Safely operate, clean and maintain cleaning equipment.
• Follow established health, safety and hygiene practices.
• Assist with building security, including locking and unlocking facilities.
• Monitor and report safety, security, maintenance and damage issues.
• Assist with maintaining appropriate supplies and cleaning materials.
• Interact courteously and respectfully with students, staff and visitors.
