About us:

The State Schools Nursing Service provides clinical advice to build the capacity of school staff to safely assist students with health needs to attend and participate in school, enabling them to reach their full potential. 

Your opportunity:

The position involves regular travel to schools across the Bundaberg area within the North Coast Region.

The role includes developing student-centred health plans, and providing training, and capability building and ongoing advice to school staff. 

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to build collaborative relationships with parents and carers, principals, school staff, students and treating health professionals

Responsibilities include:

• Deliver educationally focused nursing support as part of a multidisciplinary team, helping students with health support needs access and participate in school activities and learning.
• Develop, implement and maintain Individual and Emergency Health Plans, and incorporate student health requirements into relevant school planning for activities such as camps, sporting carnivals and formals.
• Provide health-related training to nominated school staff on specific conditions such as anaphylaxis, epilepsy, diabetes and asthma, while maintaining required professional development and annual competencies.
• Maintain accurate and secure nursing records, and ensure practice complies with relevant legislation, departmental policies, protocols, codes and professional standards, including consultation with the regional Clinical Nurse Consultant where required.
• Contribute to the development and review of nursing policies, procedures and programs, and build partnerships with relevant agencies and professional networks to support quality nursing services and positive student health and educational outcomes.
