Clinical Nurse - Far North Queensland

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Nurse to join the State Schools Nursing Service and make a meaningful difference to the health, wellbeing and educational participation of students with health support needs.
The position will be based at either Cairns Special School or Trinity Beach State School. To maintain a responsive and equitable nursing service, base locations and nursing circuits may be adjusted according to regional service needs, as determined by the Clinical Nurse
Consultant.
This role would suit an experienced nurse who enjoys autonomous practice, problem-solving, health education, collaboration and working with children and young people in a community-based environment.
This position is being offered in a Permanent Part-Time capacity (0.4FTE), 30.4 hours per fortnight.

Cairns Special School provides a supportive, inclusive and highly specialised learning environment for students from Prep to Year 12 with diverse learning and support needs. Your opportunity:
Working across a diverse range of school communities, you will use your advanced clinical knowledge, assessment and decision-making skills to support students to safely access and participate in education. The role involves working collaboratively with students, families, school staff, health professionals and other stakeholders to develop and implement individualised health supports within the school environment.
This is a varied and rewarding position offering professional autonomy, diverse clinical experiences and opportunities to build the capability and confidence of school staff in supporting students with health needs. The successful applicant will be adaptable, organised and confident working independently while contributing to a supportive regional nursing team.
Responsibilities include
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support students with health needs to safely access and participate in education.
- Develop and maintain Individual and Emergency Health Plans to ensure appropriate health support within the school environment.
- Provide guidance and training to school staff on student-specific health conditions, including anaphylaxis, epilepsy, diabetes and asthma.
- Maintain accurate and confidential nursing documentation in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and professional standards.
- Build effective partnerships with families, schools, health services and relevant agencies to support positive health and educational outcomes for students.
