Townsville State High School Special Education Program has a permanent part-time vacancy.
An exciting opportunity exists at Townsville State High School for a dynamic individual to fill a permanent Teacher Aide role, in inclusive education support, supporting students from year 7 to 12 with diverse learning needs within general classrooms. These roles are offered on
a permanent part-time basis, at 30 hours per week.
Tasks include focussed or intensive small group work including reading, writing and numeracy development, general supervision, faculty/admin work and participation in co-curricular activities.
We're seeking an enthusiastic team player with a proactive approach to support classroom activities, student welfare, and administrative tasks, with training provided as needed.

Your opportunity:
As a teacher aide within this program you will be working with students from year 7 to year 12. The role is to work collaboratively under the direction and guidance of the HOSES for Diversity and Inclusion, SEP teachers (case managers) and classroom teachers to support students with disabilities in the school.
Responsibilities include:
- Support teachers and students during classroom activities, sporting events, excursions and other educational activities.
- Provide assistance to students with additional needs, including support with positioning, meals, toileting, dressing and general wellbeing where required.
- Assist with the preparation, organisation, use and storage of teaching materials, equipment and classroom resources.
- Maintain appropriate student records and provide clerical support, including class rolls, student results, photocopying and preparation of teaching materials.
- Support students with literacy and numeracy activities through individual and small-group assistance, including reading, use of computers and access to learning resources.

Applicants who possess the following skills will make the strongest candidates:
- High level of interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to follow directions and guidelines outlined by HOSES, SEP teachers and classroom teachers and report any concerns directly to the class teacher or case manager
- Ability to communicate effectively to instruct small groups or individual students under the direction of teachers and/or therapists (includes within class, playground, sporting activities, excursions, supporting and supervising eating, toileting and dressing)
- Knowledge and understanding of a range of disabilities is an advantage
- Adaptability to cater for a diverse range of student needs, displaying patience, understanding, tact and sensitivity to students and families
- Ability to ensure all aspects of Individual Behaviour plans, Medical/Health plans and Risk Management plans are implemented with the focus on developing a positive environment
- Ability to maintain student and school confidentiality
Hours on offer:
- 30 hours/week or 6 basic hours/day.
