About Resources Safety and Health Queensland
Some roles oversee complex organisations. Others shape the confidence that industries, workers and communities place in them.

The Chief Executive Officer of Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) is one of those roles.

RSHQ stands at an important point in its evolution. The organisation has a clear mandate to protect worker safety and health across Queensland's resources sector, but the opportunity ahead is broader than regulatory oversight alone. The Board is seeking a leader who can strengthen organisational capability, lift professionalism, embed constructive workplace behaviours, and build confidence in the regulator's performance and decision-making.

This is a transformation agenda with real consequence.

About the Role
Reporting to the Board, you will lead a complex organisation responsible for safety and health oversight across Queensland's mining, quarrying, petroleum, gas and explosives industries. You will be entrusted with ensuring the regulator is contemporary, respected, effective and capable of delivering the outcomes expected by industry, workers, government and the wider community.

The Board is looking for a leader with deep credibility in safety-critical environments. While executive leadership capability is essential, this is not viewed purely as a public sector leadership role. Stakeholders want confidence that the organisation understands the operational realities of resources industries and can engage from a position of practical experience and expertise.

Accordingly, candidates with significant mining, resources, safety or regulatory leadership backgrounds are strongly encouraged to consider the opportunity.

You will bring the judgment to navigate a complex stakeholder environment, the leadership to drive organisational improvement and the credibility to engage effectively with industry leaders, workers, representative groups, government and the Board. Equally important will be your ability to operate successfully within Queensland's public sector environment and broader government context.

Essential requirements

  • A professional qualification relevant to the resources industry.
  • Professional experience in the resources sector or public service regulator.
  • The person must be eligible for appointment under the Resources Safety and Health Queensland Act 2020 and successfully complete all required probity checks.
