Sunshine Beach State School is seeking an experienced and passionate educational leader to join our team as Head of Special Education Services (HOSES). In this important role, you will ensure equity and excellence for students with a disability by driving and championing an inclusive culture and school-wide practices. You will lead the development, review and implementation of high-quality teaching and learning reasonable adjustments, ensuring alignment with current policies and legislation. With a strong focus on developing each learner in a challenging yet supportive environment, you will work collaboratively with staff, students and families to improve outcomes for our learners. You will contribute to our school environment where all students feel supported, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

Sunshine Beach State School was established in 1982. It is located on the western boundary of Noosa National Park and services the urban communities of Noosa Heads, Sunshine Beach, Sunrise Beach and Peregian. We are located on the western boundary of Noosa National Park, and prides itself on being the first accredited Glasser Quality School in Australia.

About the Role
As a key member of the school leadership team, you will foster a culture of equity and excellence for students with disability. This role will lead the delivery of high-quality, individualised teaching and adjustments, aligned with current legislation and departmental policies, to meet the diverse learning needs of every student. As a newly established leadership position, you will have the opportunity to shape and define the role's future direction within the school and lead the development and refinement of a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of high-quality, inclusive special education services across the school, ensuring compliance with current legislation and the Disability Standards for Education.
- Lead the Learning Engagement Team and oversee case management for students requiring targeted intervention or significant adjustments, ensuring equitable access to learning and appropriate support.
- Provide expert advice and build staff capability by supporting teachers and the leadership team to plan, implement and monitor effective reasonable adjustments and inclusive teaching practices for students with diverse learning needs.
- Collaborate with staff, families and external agencies to develop and implement personalised, evidence-informed approaches that strengthen student engagement, achievement and inclusion.
- Use data and strategic resource management to drive improvement, overseeing school-wide systems for monitoring student disability data and managing human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources to achieve equitable student outcomes.
Highly Desirable Skills and Experiences:
- Previous experience in special education and inclusive practices
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop an effective school-wide multi-tiered system of support
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build productive partnerships with students, families, staff and external agencies
- Experience in case management, personalised learning plan development and collaborative practices.
- Willingness to learn, model and embed Glasser and Choice Theory approaches across the school to support student engagement, promote responsible decision-making and build a strong culture of care and respect.
