Guidance Officer - Moranbah State High School

We are seeking a compassionate, proactive and student-centred Guidance Officer to support the educational, social, emotional and mental health needs of our school community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, sound professional judgement, a commitment to ethical practice and confidentiality, and the ability to build trusting relationships that empower students to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. This is a temporary full-time position commencing 21 January 2027 until 10 December 2027, unless otherwise determined.

About the Role
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Provide counselling, psychoeducational assessments and individualised support to students, offering advice to families and school staff on learning, behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, family concerns and career development.
- Collaborate with school personnel, parents, multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to coordinate case management, referrals and support services that enhance student engagement, inclusion and educational outcomes.
- Identify and assess students' learning, developmental, behavioural and emotional needs, recommending appropriate interventions, educational adjustments and individualised support plans.
- Support the implementation of student protection, behaviour support, gifted and talented education, risk management and transition processes, including responses to critical incidents and intensive behavioural needs.
- Provide guidance on educational pathways, career planning and personal development, maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with legislation and policy, and contribute to professional learning for staff, students and families.
