About the role
The Fellowship in Breast Imaging is a specialist training opportunity within a nominated BSQ service. The role provides advanced clinical exposure to breast imaging, including mammographic screen reading and interventional procedures, working directly with the BSQ multidisciplinary team to deliver essential and high-quality services and care to Queensland women.
On completion of training, the Fellow is expected to have a thorough understanding of basic and advanced principles of breast imaging practice within the BSQ program.
The role is part-time, 2-3 days/ 16-24 hours per fortnight (0.3 FTE) for 6 months.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who has a strong interest in a career in breast imaging and can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with BSQ's and the host Hospital and Health Service's (HHS) core values:
- Undertake breast imaging, mammographic screen reading and interventional services (under supervision) necessary to deliver BSQ diagnostic assessment clinics and fulfil the BSQ Breast Imaging Fellowship Curriculum.
- Demonstrate commitment to evidence-based practice, research and quality improvement activities, including active participation and presentation in clinico-pathology and multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, statewide screen reader education meetings, clinical audits and clinical risk management activities.
- Facilitate a learning environment by sharing knowledge and expertise, participating in teaching and research activities and supporting the development of colleagues.
- Develop and maintain awareness of the BreastScreen Australia National Accreditation Standards and BreastScreen Queensland Standards, Protocols and Procedures and how they relate to this position and breast imaging practice.
- Liaise and collaborate with other members of the interprofessional team to ensure effective team functioning, positive patient outcomes and the achievement of departmental objectives.
- Role model desired standards of behaviour, promoting a positive attitude, enthusiasm, respect and support of other staff, effective communication and ethical decision making.
- Ensure patients and other staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

BSQ provides screening and assessment services to help detect breast cancer for women in Queensland through early detection. BSQ operates in more than 260 locations across throughout Queensland with a network of services comprising 11 local screening and assessment services:
- Brisbane Northside
- Brisbane Southside
- Gold Coast
- Sunshine Coast
- Ipswich
- Mackay
- Rockhampton
- Cairns
- Toowoomba
- Townsville
- Wide Bay
We also have 23 satellite screening-only locations and 11 mobile screening vans, including a 4-wheel drive van, that travel to rural and remote areas to make breast screening more accessible for women and closer to where they live or work.
