About the Department

The Staff Specialist will join a multidisciplinary team of 18 FTE physicians representing a broad range of subspecialties, including Acute Medicine, Endocrinology, Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Medical Oncology, Neurology, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Palliative Care Medicine, and Rehabilitation Medicine.

The Department of Medicine is a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive workplace committed to high-quality patient care, education, and professional development.

The General Medicine Department is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for Basic Physician Training and Advanced Training in General Medicine and works closely with Cardiology, which provides a 24/7 Primary PCI service, as well as Emergency Medicine (FACEM-led) and Intensive Care (CICM-led) services.

Your Opportunity

The successful candidate will provide specialist inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services as part of the Department of Medicine at Mackay Base Hospital. Delivering high quality patient centred care across the spectrum of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders, supporting safe, evidence based clinical services and focusing on clinic-based care of IBD patients, alongside providing consultation services.

The candidate will contribute to acute medical care, elective outpatient services, endoscopy, multidisciplinary management, clinical governance, education and service development. It's expected to be proficient in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy with regular lists. There will also be support from a specialist nurse and registrar.

The candidate will also be expected to participate in the teaching of Basic Physician Trainees and medical students from James Cook University and elective placements, as well as participate in the Medical Department teaching schedule; also participating in departmental meetings including mortality meetings and audits.
