Your opportunity

From 1 January 2023 in Queensland, eligible people diagnosed with a life-limiting condition, who are suffering intolerably and dying, have an additional end-of-life choice allowing them to choose the timing and circumstances of their death. 

The Medical Practitioner will play an essential role to this service at MHHS.  The MHHS VAD Support Service team will be responsible for the provision of person-centred, compassionate care, facilitating the delivery of an equitable and responsive service to persons on the VAD pathway. This role will suit any Specialist with an interest in End-of-Life Care, but may particularly suit those with a General Practitioner, Oncology, Hematology, Neurology, or General Medicine background.

Your role

This position will provide high quality support to practitioners; patients and their families with education, coordination, reporting and debriefing in relation to VAD within Mackay Health community.

Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary MHHS VAD Support Service team, you will:

  • Ensure quality, safe, and compassionate care for all those involved with VAD
  • Provide MHHS single point of contact for VAD related inquiries, processes, and support
  • Deliver expert advice on issues relating to professional and clinical practice, education, and research.

The position may involve travel to various facilities within MHHS including home visits (where appropriate).
