Make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders.
Legal Aid Queensland is seeking a committed and capable legal professional to join our team as a Family Lawyer (PO3). This is an outstanding opportunity to build a meaningful career delivering high-quality family law services to some of Queensland's most vulnerable people.
Legal Aid Queensland plays a vital role in the state's justice system, providing specialist services across family law, child protection, domestic and family violence, child support, social work and dispute resolution. We represent the interests of children in family law and child protection matters and work to resolve disputes through family dispute resolution wherever possible, before matters proceed to court.
In this role, you will represent legally aided clients in family law, domestic and family violence, child protection and related matters. The work is challenging, complex and highly rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a genuine impact through high-quality legal advocacy and client service.

What you will do

As a Family Lawyer, you will:
  • represent clients in family law, domestic and family violence, child protection and related matters
  • prepare matters for court, instruct counsel and appear as an advocate where appropriate
  • provide duty lawyer services, legal information and advice to clients and members of the public
  • identify client needs and refer clients to other services where appropriate
  • manage your workload effectively, with support and guidance from senior legal practitioners as required
  • contribute to Legal Aid Queensland's policy, procedure, law reform and service delivery initiatives
  • build and maintain productive relationships with relevant external stakeholders
  • contribute to team planning and continuous improvement in work practices.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a lawyer who is:
  • committed to access to justice and supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged clients
  • capable of managing complex and sensitive legal matters with professionalism and care
  • confident in advocacy, client communication and legal problem-solving
  • able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • committed to continuous improvement and high-quality service delivery.

Why join Legal Aid Queensland?

At Legal Aid Queensland, you will be part of an organisation that is deeply committed to fairness, inclusion and access to justice. You will have the opportunity to work on meaningful matters, develop your legal capability and contribute to better outcomes for Queensland families and children.
This is a rewarding role for a legal professional who wants to use their skills to make a tangible difference in the community.
