About us:

Talara Primary College is a P-6 Education Queensland State Primary School which opened in 1998 with 300 students.  Today Talara Primary College caters for around 1000 keen and enthusiastic students eager to learn. It is a young school which can be proud of its achievements. The school is committed to high standards in all areas of education.  It is well served by dedicated, enthusiastic, caring and committed staff who most willingly and ably share their talents and abilities with students and other professionals.

The ECDP Unit (Early Childhood Development) sits within the grounds of Talara Primary College. The role of the ECDP is to provide early intervention programs for children with significant educational support needs, from birth to Prep age. The ECDP is a district resource and as such, supports children from surrounding areas, as well as those who live locally. We are fortunate to have excellent partnerships with our Regional Specialist who provide training and mentoring all year round and is staffed by teachers and teacher aides.  Our ECDP staff offer a comprehensive range of individualised programs for these children with special needs. The unit primarily supports children in the year before they start school, helping them develop the social skills needed for a successful transition to Prep. It also assists families with the paperwork and enrolment requirements for entry into Prep at either a mainstream primary school or a special school.

Your opportunity:

The Early Childhood Development Unit typically begins Term 1 with 30-40 students, increasing to nearly 70 students by the end of the year. Two sessions are held each day in two classrooms, 2.5 hour sessions with a lunch break in between.  Based on a 30 hour week, the Teacher Aide will support the unit every day except Wednesdays.  On Wednesdays, the Teacher Aide will work in the Talara Primary College SEP Unit, called ST.AR.S (STriving towARds Success) Program. Experience as a Teacher Aide working with students with a disability is valuable, however, having the right personal qualities is what really matters.

We are looking for someone who has the following attributes; passionate, energetic, caring and compassionate, with a genuine love of working with young children and supporting their families. They will be willing to embrace the fun and joy of early childhood, whether that means blowing bubbles, getting messy, playing, laughing or creating meaningful learning experiences. They will model and reinforce teacher expected school behaviours, provide nurturing support for our most vulnerable students, build positive relationships with families, and develop strong, lasting connections that help every child feel safe, valued and supported.

Please refer to the Role Description for a full list of responsibilities.
