Are you a scientist who wants to see your work make a real difference?

At the Safety in Mines Testing and Research Station (Simtars), you'll apply your chemistry expertise to help protect the health and safety of workers across Queensland's mining industry. This is far more than a traditional laboratory role. You'll have the opportunity to work with advanced mine gas monitoring technologies, investigate complex technical issues, contribute to research and innovation, and support some of the most challenging operating environments in Australia.

As an Analytical Chemist, you'll be part of a highly skilled team that provides specialist laboratory, field and technical services to industry. Your work may involve analysing mine gas samples, developing and improving analytical methods, supporting quality systems, delivering training, participating in industry projects, and providing technical advice to clients. You'll also have opportunities to travel to mine sites, work directly with industry stakeholders, and contribute to research activities that improve mine safety outcomes.

We're looking for a motivated and adaptable scientist who enjoys solving problems, working with technology, and applying their technical knowledge in practical situations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, have strong communication skills, and be capable of building productive relationships with clients and colleagues.

This role would suit someone with qualifications in chemistry, applied science or a related discipline who is seeking a varied career that combines laboratory science, field work, client engagement and continuous learning. Experience with analytical instrumentation, quality systems, technical report writing, gas chromatography, mining, occupational hygiene or NATA-accredited laboratories will be highly regarded, but is not essential.

Applicants must be willing to undertake regular travel, participate in a 24/7 after-hours on-call support roster, and work in mining environments. A current driver's licence and the ability to meet industry medical requirements are essential.

Join Simtars and become part of a team that uses science, technology and innovation to improve safety outcomes across the mining industry.
