Why join us?

In these roles, you will have the opportunity to:

  • appear in the Magistrates and Children's Courts
  • work on bail applications, pleas, summary trials and committal hearings
  • provide duty lawyer services, including for clients in custody
  • strengthen your legal advice, advocacy and case preparation skills
  • learn from experienced senior practitioners in a supportive team environment
  • contribute to policy, law reform and service delivery improvements.

What we're looking for

We're looking for lawyers who have:

  • knowledge of criminal law practice and procedure, and the ability to provide legal information and advice in this area
  • knowledge of relevant legal practice, procedure and ethical standards
  • strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including clients with complex needs, using trauma-informed practice principles.

Why Legal Aid Queensland?

At Legal Aid Queensland, you'll do work that has real impact. You'll help people navigate serious legal issues, support fairer outcomes and contribute to a more accessible justice system.
Whether you're looking for the stability of a permanent advice role or the opportunity to build your advocacy experience in a temporary criminal lawyer position, these roles offer meaningful work, professional growth and the chance to be part of a supportive and respected legal practice.
If you're ready to grow your criminal law career in a role with challenge, purpose and strong development opportunities, we'd love to hear from you.
