About the role

The Dietetic Assistant – Room Service Support plays an important role in supporting patient nutrition and wellbeing at Caboolture Hospital. Working within the Dietetics & Food Services team, this position provides direct patient care by assisting patients to select appropriate meals, monitoring nutritional intake and supporting the delivery of safe and effective nutrition interventions that align with individual dietary requirements.

In this role, you will work closely with patients, dietitians, nursing staff and food service teams to optimise nutritional outcomes. Using computerised menu systems, you will assist with menu selection, therapeutic diet compliance, nutrition screening and patient education, while contributing to high-quality food service delivery and ensuring patients receive meals that support their clinical care and recovery.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Liaise with patients and multidisciplinary healthcare teams regarding dietary requirements, meal selection, nutritional intake monitoring and the delivery of appropriate nutrition support.
  • Provide menu support in a phone-based and patient-facing environment, utilising computerised menu systems to record meal selections, generate reports and support food service operations.
  • Identify patients at nutritional risk using screening tools and implement approved interventions including supplements, food charts, high-protein snacks and referrals to dietitians where required.
  • Assist patients in selecting meals that meet therapeutic and texture-modified diet requirements while optimising nutritional intake and ensuring food safety compliance.
  • Support the delivery of clinical nutrition services through monitoring special diets, providing delegated clinical duties, training food service staff and contributing to quality improvement activities.
