Queensland State Archives (QSA) connects Queenslanders with their past, the histories of their families, the local community and the state by providing access to Queensland’s most significant historical records.
QSA has an exciting opportunity for an archivist to join our team and help grow our collection, improve the discoverability of and facilitate access to archival records.

The primary purpose of the role is to perform a range of archival duties, including the arrangement and description of public records, improving discoverability, growing QSA's collection, facilitating access and providing reference and file issue services. You will work in a diverse team and engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

In this role you will:

  • Undertake arrangement and description activities of archival records in all formats, both physical and digital, according to the Australian Series System and institutional standards and procedures.
  • Perform detailed archival research.
  • Undertake accurate computer-based processing, including analysis and manipulation of collection data using QSA's archival records management systems.
  • Prepare and update documents using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Provide timely and accurate information and advice to QSA colleagues and Queensland public authorities in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Liaise with Queensland public authorities around archival transfers, including restricted access periods for records being transferred to the collection.
  • Provide access services, including research and reference services for clients in the Reading Room.
  • Organise and undertake duties to maintain QSA's File Issue service as required.
