Your Opportunity

As the General Hand you will be responsible for:

  • providing a range of general assistance to TAFE Queensland SkillsTech to contribute to the provision of effective vocational education and training for the Region's clients; and
  • the position links with the formal support group by assisting cleaning staff, maintenance staff, security staff and performs minor short-term duties related to each of these groups. 

This position reports to the Operations Coordinator. 

This is a Permanent, Full-time opportunity.

The position will be based primarily at Acacia Ridge however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily housekeeping support to the Educational Delivery Teams.
  • Operate plant and equipment necessary to support the operations of the Institute and Educational Delivery Teams.
  • Undertake and assist trade persons (internal and external) in the preparation and assembly/dismantling of materials associated with Institute activities, as required.
  • Assist in the moving, setting up and arrangement of furniture and other items, as required.
  • Undertake internal and external movement, relocation, collection and/or delivery and receipting of equipment, goods and other items necessary for the effective operation of the Institute, including undertaking necessary driving duties, as directed.
  • Maintain equipment, including educational equipment, associated with tasks undertaken in the performance of daily duties in a clean and serviceable condition, and report any maintenance or defect issues in accordance with Institute procedures.
  • Provide assistance in emergent situations by undertaking duties to maintain a safe and hygienic work environment.
  • Ensure fleet vehicles are cleaned and kept tidy.
  • Provide assistance in emergent situations by undertaking grounds maintenance, as directed.
  • Contribute to the environmental sustainability of the Institute by assisting Educational Delivery teams effectively use and dispose of educational supplies/materials (timber, steel, plastic, etc).  

Salary

The salary range for this position at the OO2 classification is $59,754.90 - $64,610.12 (gross) per annum.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety issues as applied in a working environment.
  2. Ability to perform tasks to a successful conclusion in a timely manner.
  3. Ability to work under guidance with minimal supervision and contribute effectively to team objectives.
  4. Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of  tasks involving labouring, minor maintenance, minor workplace upkeep, limited groundscare skills and pick up and delivery practices.
  5. Sound interpersonal skills demonstrated by an ability to relate to a wide range of people.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current valid Open 'C' Class Drivers Licence and current Forklift Ticket. 

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Restricted LR (Light Rigid) Licence would be advantageous however not essential.
