About the role:
12 month temporary Principal Lawyer opportunity in the WorkCover team at Crown Law
Your Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a professional legal practice and undertake the range of legal work completed by the WorkCover Team including the management of the more complex damages claims.
- When required, provide supervision and guidance to other members of the practice in conduct of legal matters.
- As required, assist in:
- providing legal training to officers of client departments
- promoting Crown Law services to client departments
- providing legal training to officers of Crown Law
- providing specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to other officers within the legal practice group
- liaising with officers of government departments, corporations and instrumentalities
- negotiating skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationships
- writing and communicating succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.
- Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self development, including:
- achievement of CPD points
- participation in Crown Law's performance management framework and any feedback processes.
- Comply at all times with the office standards, including:
- the client service charter
- the requirement to meet set targets for billable hours
- quality and timeliness measures
- quality assurance framework.
Skills and Experience:
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- six years PAE in personal injuries litigation in Australia
- admission as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland and enrolment or eligibility for enrolment, to practice in the Federal and High Courts of Australia
- an extensive knowledge of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules and be familiar with the rules of the Federal and High Court
- in addition to relevant Workers' Compensation legislation, applicants should be familiar with or have knowledge of the following legislation:
- Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002
- Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994
- Civil Liability Act 2003.
