About the role:

12 month temporary Principal Lawyer opportunity in the WorkCover team at Crown Law

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a professional legal practice and undertake the range of legal work completed by the WorkCover Team including the management of the more complex damages claims.
  • When required, provide supervision and guidance to other members of the practice in conduct of legal matters.
  • As required, assist in:
  • providing legal training to officers of client departments
  • promoting Crown Law services to client departments
  • providing legal training to officers of Crown Law
  • providing specialist advice and guidance on questions of law and practice to other officers within the legal practice group
  • liaising with officers of government departments, corporations and instrumentalities
  • negotiating skilfully in tough situations, winning concessions without damaging relationships
  • writing and communicating succinctly in a variety of settings to convey messages that will achieve a desired effect.
  • Participate in and maintain a proactive approach to self development, including:
    • achievement of CPD points
    • participation in Crown Law's performance management framework and any feedback processes.
  • Comply at all times with the office standards, including:
    • the client service charter
    • the requirement to meet set targets for billable hours
    • quality and timeliness measures
    • quality assurance framework.

Skills and Experience:

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • six years PAE in personal injuries litigation in Australia
  • admission as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland and enrolment or eligibility for enrolment, to practice in the Federal and High Courts of Australia
  • an extensive knowledge of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules and be familiar with the rules of the Federal and High Court
  • in addition to relevant Workers' Compensation legislation, applicants should be familiar with or have knowledge of the following legislation:
    • Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002
    • Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994
    • Civil Liability Act 2003.
