Our Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) is a newly established 12-bed short stay unit focused on rapid assessment, early intervention, and seamless care coordination. Positioned between ED and Inpatient wards, MAPU plays a pivotal role in improving patient flow, reducing length of stay, and ensuring timely access to multidisciplinary care.

This is an exciting time as we open this new unit and grow our clinical workforce. We are seeking motivated Clinical Nurses to join our team. Relocation assistance and short-term accommodation may be available (conditions apply).

About us:

The Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) is a dedicated 12-bed short stay unit designed to support timely assessment, clinical planning, and early management for patients requiring multidisciplinary input. Serving as an intermediary between the Emergency Department and inpatient wards, MAPU enhances decision-making and promotes efficient patient flow.

At Rockhampton Hospital, MAPU aims to ease the pressure of medical admissions on the ED, reduce length of stay through timely access to multidisciplinary care, improve the quality of care and patient outcomes, and ensure the effective use of hospital resources.

About the role:

The role requires advanced clinical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to act as a clinical resource for nursing staff and other health professionals in support of the Associate Nurse Unit Manager. It involves modelling high professional standards, maintaining a safe and comfortable ward environment, and adhering to all relevant policies, procedures, and contemporary HR requirements. The position also supports implementation and monitoring of organisational quality, safety, and clinical governance standards, working with the NUM to lead practice changes and clinical innovations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for effective teamwork across multidisciplinary groups.

About you:

  • Registration as a Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a current practicing certificate are mandatory for this position.
  • Although not mandatory, a relevant postgraduate qualification or working towards is desirable for this position.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $131,900 is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $54.44 - $58.30 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
