About us:
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) for General Medicine oversees acute medical care across Medical Ward Level 4 and the 12-bed Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU).
General Medicine at Rockhampton Hospital provides 24/7 care for acute and chronic medical conditions and is the major referral centre for Central Queensland and Central West. Services include stroke and TIA management, high-dependency care, step-down coronary and intensive care, telemetry, delirium, renal care, infectious diseases, and alcohol/drug detoxification.
The Medical Ward has 32 beds, including 5 prioritised for stroke, with care delivered through a multidisciplinary team. The MAPU streamlines assessment and management for patients requiring timely, multidisciplinary intervention, easing pressure on the ED, reducing length of stay, and improving patient outcomes.
About the role:
The role provides clinical leadership across General Medicine by supporting orientation, supervision, and performance management in collaboration with the MAPU ANUM and Medical NUM. As a senior clinician, you will contribute to developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and programs that enhance clinical service delivery, while ensuring compliance with contemporary HR practices and organisational standards. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will drive clinical practice improvement, lead quality initiatives, and align evidence-based practice with the quality framework. The position also involves maintaining current clinical knowledge, acting as a resource, mentor, and role model, and fostering a collaborative team culture supported by strong communication and change-management skills.
About you:
- Registration as a Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and a current practicing certificate are mandatory for this position.
- While not mandatory, a relevant postgraduate diploma or master's degree is highly desirable for this position. Where the successful applicant does not currently hold this qualification, commitment to completion within an agreed timeframe is expected and will form part of the performance and development plan.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $164,212 is comprised of:
- An hourly rate between $66.85 - $72.58 p.h.
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
