What you'll do
- Participate in the operational duties including sample preparation and processing to facilitate SARS-CoV-2, and other respiratory viruses.
- Provide support and assistance in the specimen reception and setup area under the direction of the rostered Health Practitioner and the Chief Scientist as follows;
- Perform microbiology setup.
- Perform QC temperature checks and maintenance as required, accurately recording results and notifying supervisors of non-conformances
- Actively monitor the receipt and distribution of specimens as directed
- Efficiently and reliably process a range of specimen types as directed
- Effectively operate a range of equipment utilized in specimen processing
- Provide administrative support with data entry and clerical tasks as required
- Provide effective communication and active participation in teamwork as required
- Process samples for analysis on-site or for despatch to other laboratories, entering data using the laboratory computer system, basic quality control functions and cleaning of workstations and equipment.
About you
It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
We are searching for someone with:
- Ability to participate in weekend and public holiday rosters.
- Demonstrated operational knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge in relation to specimen processing and preparation within the Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology Pathology Queensland laboratory
- Demonstrated word processing skills, and computer data input and retrieval skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team independently and at times without direct supervision.
- Proficiency in the use of laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, cytospin, staining machine).
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
