Role details

The Health Information Services at the Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Principal Health Information Manager to join their team on a temporary basis.

Your opportunity

As the Principal Health Information Manager, you will provide senior leadership across Health Information Services for MHHS. You will work closely with the Manager Health Information Services, Chief Information Officer and Executive Leadership Team, with professional management of key HIS managers and services.

In this role you will:

  • Lead RTI, IP and release of information functions, including decision-making, internal review and privacy governance.
  • Provide strategic leadership for clinical coding, audit and Activity Based Funding, including DRG and QWAU optimisation in partnership with Finance and Performance.
  • Fulfil the role of Data Custodian and represent Health Information Services on key governance committees, including Information Governance.
  • Shape health information and records management policy and practice, support eHealth and information initiatives, and represent MHHS on statewide HIM forums.
  • Manage, mentor and support staff, fostering a high-performance, compliant and collaborative team culture.

About the Team

Health Information Services (HIS) delivers specialised services that support the Mackay Hospital and Health Service's commitment to the effective management and provision of high-quality patient information.

The service encompasses several key functional areas, including Health Information Management, Clinical Coding, Data Quality, Information Access, Scanning, Medical Typing, Corporate Records, Mail Room, and the Switchboard. HIS operates under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

While the primary office for HIS is located at Mackay Base Hospital, the Principal Health Information Manager may perform their duties remotely from any location within Queensland, provided they have access to appropriate computer systems and a suitable office environment. Occasional travel to Mackay Base Hospital will be required.
