The team at the Bowen Hospital is seeking applications for a Principal House Officer to join their team on a Temporary Full-Time (76 hrs p.f.) or Temporary Part-Time basis.

Your opportunity

This role is required to participate in the provision, development, and maintenance of an effective, efficient, and equitable clinical service to hospital clients; and contribute to the continual improvement of medical education and dissemination of knowledge to staff and clients.  To coordinate as necessary with other personnel within the hospital, other hospital services and agencies to ensure optimum patient care, and to ensure integration of services in the wider community.

  • A Principal House Officer is a medical practitioner in the third or subsequent year of practical experience after eligibility for full registration as a medical practitioner.

About the Team

Bowen Hospital is comprised of 20 beds and 9 bed alternatives chemotherapy chair and renal dialysis, 24/7 emergency, acute and subacute inpatients unit, outpatient services, and provides the following health services:

  • Acute inpatient care, including 4 monitored inpatient beds
  • Accident and emergency
  • Community and primary healthcare
  • Mental Health outreach
  • Palliative inpatient care
  • Outreach Specialists from Mackay and Townsville including Orthopaedics and Endocrinology
  • Maternity and women's services, with both medical and midwife models; antenatal postnatal EDMS contraception services
  • Acute beds may be occupied by long-term nursing home residents, due to lack of available beds in the community
  • Allied Health including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work, pharmacists, radiographers, and outreach dietician
  • Nurse navigator and community Liaison Nurse
  • Child health services including immunisation
  • Medical Imaging CT, Xray, Ultrasound and OPG for inpatients, emergency presentations, and booked outpatients.
