An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Psychiatrist) (Conjoint Professor/Associate Professor of Child Psychiatry - Joint Appointment with Bond University) to join Gold Coast Health. The role highlights a significant collaboration between the Health Service and the University as it works to enhance the strong relationship between the organisations and their shared clinical and research ambitions.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRANZCP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and registrable as a Psychiatry specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or ability to obtain such within the next six months.
  • Internationally trained candidates may require an acceptable Comparability Assessment undertaken by the appropriate Australian Specialist Medical College as part of the application process.
  • Relevant qualification/s in the field of Child Psychiatry or its subspecialities (such as or equivalent to a Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with RANZCP) and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • A PhD or equivalent experience in either medicine or one of the medical/clinical sciences is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrated strategic, leadership, and high-level managerial proficiency, including experience in academic management and high-level decision making.
  • A strong research profile and an excellent research track record with substantial record of publications in a discipline relevant to the conjoint position and/or success in obtaining competitive grant funding and/or experience in High Degree Research supervision or supervision of specialty trainees/registrars.
  • Demonstrated capacity to promote the development of a culture of excellence in medical education and research which is underpinned by evidence-based practice.
  • A commitment to facilitation of innovative teaching.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice both as a clinician and in supervising and leading clinical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and nurture industry and end-user partnerships.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent GCHHS, Medical Program and Bond University in the wider community.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours, on-call roster for Child and Youth Mental Health Services.

Salary information

  • Temporary full time (Fixed term 3 year contract)
  • Estimated total remuneration up to $462,570 p.a., comprising:
    • Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $259,072 - $274,678 p.a
    • Staff Specialist: Base salary from $216,643 - $251,642 p.a
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • Motor vehicle allowance
  • Professional development allowance
  • Granted private practice rights
